S1 Plan

In order to reduce the number of notifiable redundancies, the "Solution S" was supplemented in the run-up to the decisive supervisory board meeting and then finally adopted as the "S1 Plan" by the supervisory board with a majority of the capital representatives: "In the plant area 4,700 redundancies - Heilbronn and Neuenstein plants to be closed", announced an extra in the Heilbronner Stimme on 15 April. Daily production was set at 250 vehicles.

Foreigners in particular lost their jobs - they were compensated with "return bonuses". There were also severance payments for older employees.

Although the board had originally suggested the opposite, Schmücker and his colleagues were also

satisfied with the decision to continue Neckarsulm in single-shift operation "for the time being". It is not possible to say exactly what had led to this. From a regional point of view, the decisive factor was the decision, announced only on the day of the "March on Heilbronn", to have the successor to the VW Porsche 914 manufactured in Neckarsulm. The total of 313,220 Porsche 924s and 944s that rolled off Neckarsulm assembly lines until 1991 became a bridge to the future.
